Abstract:
Treating three cultivars of Vicia faba L. with ethephon led to reduced vegetative growth and enhanced abscission of leaves, flowers and immature pods. No clear pattern emerges of changes in the levels of endogenous auxin and inhibitors as a result of treatment with the growth regulator. Cytokinin levels in leaves of treated plants were much higher than in the controls but no changes occurred in stem tissue. The results are discussed in relation to senescence, abscission and flowering.
