Abstract:
From flowers of Rhododendron cv. Lems Stormcloud, four pigments were isolated and identified as delphinidin 3-arabinoside (37%), cyanidin 3-arabinoside (46%), delphinidin 3-galactoside (6%) and cyanidin 3-galactoside (11%) by means of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods and chemical degradation. The sugar of the anthocyanin 3-arabinosides were found to be on the pyranoside form, based on shift values assigned by heteronuclear NMR experiments.
