pp: 963-974

Abstract:
The cultural requirements of an unnamed brown capped Agaricus strain (W4 II) were investigated. Preliminary studies were confined to identifying the most suitable substrate on which to grow this fungus and the most favourable temperature at which to sustain fructification. The extracellular mushroom enzyme laccase, produced in direct proportion to its fungal biomass, was used to assess the degree of mushroom colonization in a range of prepared composts. The potential for commercial cultivation of this mushroom is discussed.
