Abstract:
Calcium nitrate reduces peel-pitting and cuticular water permeability of ‘Fortune’ mandarin when applied just before or at fruit colour-break. Gibberellic acid (GA3) also reduces the percentage of affected fruits, although with lower efficiency. However, GA3 had no effect on cuticular water permeability. As GA3 delays senescence and only partially controls peel-pitting, peel senescence may not be the unique factor involved in this physiological disorder. With the exception of peel resistance to puncturing, peel pitting and cuticular permeability, calcium nitrate did not affect fruit characteristics.
