Abstract:
The cycle of development of jaboticaba fruit was completed in about two months, during a relatively cool season in Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. A prominent initial phase of very slow growth was observed. Full volume was attained before the completion of dry-matter accumulation. Chlorophyll concentrations in fruit skin increased along with the rapid growth phase of the fruit and started declining after the occurrence of maximum growth rates. This decline was accompanied by an accentuated increase of anthocyanin concentrations which lasted until the end of the fruit growth cycle.
