Title: Effect of N-Fertigation on Fruit Yield, Leaf N and Sugar Content in Fruits of Two Strawberry Cultivars
Author: ROLF NESTBY
pp: 563-568
Abstract:
N-fertilizing of strawberries at weekly intervals over seven weeks ending at the time of the second harvest date in the first two fruiting years, increased fruit yield in both years for cvs Bounty and Korona, on a poor sandy loam. The effect of N fertilizing was not so clear on a rich silt loam, expressing no yield increase in the first year, and a tendency to increase the second year. Yield increases were caused by more fruits, which contained more sugar but were smaller than those on unfertilized plants. There was an increase in the N concentration of leaf DM parallel to the yield increase. The percentage of high quality fruits larger than 22 mm was not influenced by fertilization, but rotting tended to increase at high N levels.
