Abstract:
Africa has a remarkable, and remarkably diverse, flora, with approx. 35,000 endemics among its estimated 50,000 - 70,000 species. Southern Africa exhibits among the greatest species diversity in the World, with more than 5,000 monocot and 17,000 dicot higher plant taxa, while the tropics boast around 30,000 species. In fact, plant and animal biodiversity is considered paramount among the continent`s natural wealth.
