Title:
The Flight from Science and Reason

Author:
DICK TAVERNE

pp: 1-3

Abstract:
According to opinion polls, most people still think science makes the World a better place and, generally, scientists are well-regarded. But, when questions are asked in more detail, the picture changes. Although in principle people trust scientists, they do not if they work for, or are financed directly or indirectly by, industry or government. That just about eliminates all scientists except those who work for environmental organisations; and indeed, those are the ones according to the polls that the public trusts most. They are the least objective and the least likely to publish papers in peer-reviewed journals.
